The Douglas C-47 "Black Sparrow"

This Douglas C-47, known as the "Black Sparrow", is based in Gary, Indiana, home of the CAF's Great Lakes Wing. The Black Sparrow flies to over 20 airshows every year and is enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of spectators. Recently, a wealth of information has been found on the original crew. Frank Widbin, the Black Sparrow's copilot, was reunited with his airplane at the Bloomington (Illinois) Airshow of 1995. This special event epitomizes the CAF motto LEST WE FORGET . Frank is a gracious person and a hero of the first order.
